Northern grown mugo pine Pinus mugo Turra. ‘Mughus’ died following the first 2 field digging dates when planted in containers. However, plants dug the last 4 dates survived and grew well. These data suggest that mugo pine can be dug bare-root in the fall, stored or planted into containers in the fall when labor is available with acceptable survival and performance if the plants are not dug too early. Root pruning had no effect on survival.
